EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORPS: A WEBINAR TO KNOW HOW PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES CAN JOIN THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY

On the 24th of September, the European Disability Form – EDF – organized a webinar in order to present volunteering opportunities within the European Solidarity corps programme. During the first part of the webinar, Andrei Popescu, programme manager at the EU commission directorate general for education, youth and culture explained all the opportunities of this programme and its related facilities for persons with disabilities, such as reasonable accommodations and other economic facilities.
Then, it was the turn of some associations, who presented their best practices on ESC inclusive projects for young people with disabilities. In particular, Anca David, our executive director, introduced the audience to Views activities and projects which are specific for blind and visually impaired people. After, Frank Sioen, the advocacy officer of the European Network on Independent Living organization, talked about this other hosting organization. Then, two former participants of the ESC programme brought their direct experiences. The webinar was concluded with a ceremony which highlighted the winning project of a young researcher with disability with a scholarship.

This kind of events are very important because there are still a lot of young people with disabilities who do not know about the possibility to try this kind of experiences and would like to have more information about hosting and sending organizations available and other issues, such as everything concerning their needs related to their specific disability. Even direct experiences of living testimonies are fundamental, so other young people with disabilities can directly see how their colleagues reached to do this experience.

As soon as it will be available, we will share the registration of the webinar with you on our social media, so stay tuned!
